One of the many best practices that ParityFactory enables is automated holds. For Quality checks. For reserving specific lots for specific customers. And, it turns out, for efficiency.
Automated quality holds and releases have benefits for food manufacturers far beyond typical food safety and efficiency goals. Increasing factory throughput is one example of how hold functionality can support growing businesses.
One ParityFactory client produces frozen finished goods that require a specific amount of time in the freezer for maximum freshness. With a fierce commitment to product quality, this company went to great lengths to ensure freezer time was never cut short. Since manual processes were impractical for ensuring product was not prematurely released, product was routinely held in the freezer longer than required. (Example: Product that went into the freezer 5 hours ago was not easily differentiated from product that went in 10 hours ago. To avoid risk of early release, and even though much of the freezer content was safe to go, freezer timing was extended for everything in order to account for the last product in.)
At full capacity, and with more demand for the high-quality product that made them famous, this operation turned efforts toward added efficiency. ParityFactory’s solution modernized their tracing, eliminated expensive paperwork processes and established real-time automated inventory control. With the help of ParityFactory’s flexible hold functionality, an additional unexpected benefit emerged.
Organized holds meant they could produce more – same factory, same equipment, same staff. As production is completed in ParityFactory, pallet tags are printed to initiate a 36-hour freezer hold. Pallets are scanned into the freezer with specific time and location details. After 36 hours, pallets are automatically released and available to ship – resulting is a continuous flow of product through the freezers and greater throughput in the factory. In addition to producing more, shipping staff now work easier, faster, and with less errors.
